Commissioned by *happysorceress who wanted a happy Barda and Scott together. And I figured Christmas is right around the corner... So here we go!
Here's an honest truth of mine... I don't like the New Gods. I know we're supposed to honor and revere what Jack Kirby gave the comic industry, and I truly do. I'm actually with Alex Ross in that I believe that Kirby had more to do with the defining of modern comics than Stan Lee did. (Though I'll place Stan at a close second.) But I don't think the New Gods are his greatest ideas. At best, they're a more high-tech version of the Asgard from Marvel. Most of the characters from New Genesis are pretty lame in my opinion... With two exceptions: Big Barda and Mister Miracle.
I always liked those two. I could say it was probably because it was no problem to just ignore New Genesis with these two happily together on Earth, but that'd not be entirely true. They're just cool characters. I like the idea of the "super escape artist" and his giant protective lover. (Though I'm honestly not fond of her armor. It's overly busy and kinda gaudy. Scott's a performer... I expect his costume to look loud and garish.)
The thing is, as silly and "shipper" as it may sound, I like comic book couples, and I especially like it when they come together after a long period of time. Because people grow with these relationships as well. They become attached to the characters, and imagine treating your own relationship as a "sales factor"? That's why a half a decade later, people are STILL irked about Peter and Mary Jane, why people still get annoyed at the shuffling away of the Clark Kent and Lois marriage, and why some people are pissed off about Big Barda and Mister Miracle. They were kinda cool together.
I know they haven't shown up on the Nu52 yet, (that I know of) but I'm hoping they're much the same way and not like some mutant cannibals or something stupid. (Who the hell knows with DC?)
They showed up in the latest issue of Earth 2. Nothing was really said about them, but they look like they have a greater part to play in the upcoming issues.
DC really should reboot the reboot; it just doesn't seem to be working out. Better yet, they should reboot the company altogether. Get rid of all the writers and artist and bring in entirely new blood. Same goes for Marvel.

And thank you again! I love it.
