But for those that don't wish to read it all here's the short version. Some time ago, Jim Valentino, the guy who wrote and drew one of my favorite comics from the 1990's, Guardians of the Galaxy, recently posted how the entire series would have played out had things not fallen through like they did. My friend Joe Sherman (the guy who commissioned me to draw that GotG Nikki from a month back) approached Valentino to draw what the cover to Guardians of the Galaxy issue #51 would have looked like. (kind of like a return to times cool, you know?) Valentino apparently loved the idea and jumped on it. He drew it, giving homage to the classic George Perez cover from Crisis of Infinite Earths. Joe, being bugged by months by me to do something with his inking, decided to sit down and actually ink the piece. (He's a really good inker I think.) Then earlier this week, I decided to spend an afternoon and colored it for fun. This was so mindnumbingly intense, due to the sheer amount of characters in there, not to mention having to remember what half of these guys looked like color scheme wise, and knowing who everyone was that hadn't yet shown up in the comic (like the Yellowjacket comforting Killraven in the lower left row there.), and not to mention having to color a lo-rez version of it. But you know what? I loved it. To actually have a chance to bring a comic that I grew up with and loved to life, even if only in an unofficial capacity was a great honor and thrill for me. So here you guys are and I hope you like it. Pencils: Jim Valentino Inks: Joe Sherman Colors: A very exicted me! |
